Competent, committed and reliable teachers who interact well with girls and who embrace our mission, form the backbone of this department and ensure development and growth. The Music Staff are a cohesive unit who complement one another’s skills.

‘Whilst never compromising excellence, we recognize the need to instill a sense of enjoyment and confidence in our pupils when they perform music, without fear of failure and excessive competition or judgement.’

MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES

  • Music as a subject: At the end of Grade 9, girls may opt to take Music as a Matric subject. We follow the IEB syllabus.
  • Taking Private Music Lessons in PIANO, FLUTE, CLARINET, SAXOPHONE, VIOLIN, VOICE TRAINING, RECORDER, GUITAR & DRUM KIT. Currently, approximately 25% of our pupils (Junior and Senior School) are enrolled in the Music Programme.
  • Senior Choir – over 85 talented, happy and enthusiastic singers represent our school in this choir and perform at many formal occasions and events. They have been described as ‘the heartbeat’ of the school.
  • Gospel Choir – these vibrant young woman meet at regular intervals and sing traditional gospel music. They too perform at many formal school occasions.
  • Junior Choir – Over 40 girls from the Junior School participate with excellence in this choir and perform at many formal Junior School functions and occasions.
  • Marimba Band - is for Junior School girls in Grade 6 & 7 who audition for a place in the band. There are 18 members and the band performs within the school and at various markets, fairs and venues in and around the city.
  • Wind Band – comprises of Senior School girls and Junior School cadets. This band has grown in leaps and bounds and are producing music of a fine standard. The musicians play flutes, clarinets, saxophones, percussion, drums and piano.
  • SCA Band – consists of a group of girls who perform on guitar, keyboard, piano and drums and who sing and play for Praise and Worship functions.
  • Flutefifers – is a pilot project whereby Senior Girls teach and mentor aspirant, beginner flautists.
