RELEVANCE OF HISTORY IN THE YEAR 2010...
...to develop aware, informed citizens of South Africa and the world. Without a knowledge of the past, it is difficult to understand the present and the future.
...to develop skills such as the interpretation of sources (ranging from oral to visual to written to abstract); the ability to make judgments about the reliability and accuracy of these sources; the ability to empathise and the ability to formulate clear and logical arguments.
...to develop a senese of enquiry and desire to gain more understanding and knowledge about the world in which we live by studying processes and dynamics from the past and relating them to the present.
...to develop one's own value system based on an understanding of other people in a global, national or personal context.
